The NYC Aquarium and Public Waterfront design manifests how both complexity and simplicity complement the other by exemplifying subsidence through space, form and function. This process is based on the coral reef formation which manifests the dichotomic relationship between a compund process and its simplified outcome. Complex paths with organic shapes connect the park’s different activities with site’s major urban nodes and its transportation systems. On the inside, network paths connect the expositions giving visitors a dynamic experi-ence, converging through the central space, which exhibits: three major tanks, fossils and digital-interactive activities. The shotcrete structure, prominent at its entrance, progressively subsides towards the exit, defining the landscape where it lays upon. The analysis, research, concept, design strategy, volumetric studies, diagrams, 3D modelling, drawings and final renderings were made in collaboration with Melissa Mata and Cizel Zea with an even distribution of work. My sole contribution to the project included the sketches, site plan, final presentation, and the sections.
